I am a woman (well) over 50 who strives to make fitness a big part of her life. I do this for a variety of reasons, as I am sure you do as well. One is for health and longevity. One is certainly so I can look my best for as long as I can. Just because the calendar moves ever-forward doesn’t mean we have to look out-of-shape, or matronly.
In reality, I don’t just want to be more fit than most 50+ year-old women, frankly, I would like to be more fit than most 30-year-olds. And I am. You can be, too, which is why I write what I do here. That’s me over on the left at age 56.
If you have tried and despaired of getting into great shape at any stage of your life, you are at the right place. Especially if you are over 50, busy and have tried a zillion things. Here you will find absolutely no-nonsense advice, meal plans, workouts, reviews, and a no BS place to ask questions. We’re all in this together, but let’s have some fun while doing the (sometimes) hard work.
What Sort of Expertise Do I Have?
Do I have any sort of expertise? Yes and no. I am an ISSA certified fitness trainer with many, many years of experience with fitness and nutrition–what works, what doesn’t. I am also a certified lifestyle wellness trainer, which basically means I can help you not only with your physical fitness but with your lifestyle fitness. A certification in kettlebell training rounds out my pedigree.
I have also studied habit transformation from just about every source I can find. I am a classic procrastinator who has to trick herself into getting important things done. You’ll read some funny and heartbreaking things here about how we can transform our habits. This is really the key to your weight loss or fitness journey. I am only an expert in this in the sense that I have studied the subject for a long time and learned things that work for me. I know this is a trite saying, but if I can do it, I promise you, you can too!
Fun Facts About Me
- I absolutely adore making handbags! I’ve sewn since 8th grade, and made my two boys lots of clothing when they were little. But a few years back, for some reason I cannot quite remember, I made a small zipper pouch. It turned out kinda cute, so I decided to make one for each of the ladies who work with me. They all seemed to like them (or at least said so). I got a little bit hooked on it, and have branched out into much more complicated items.
- I have only ever lived on the west coast. I was born in California, moved to Oregon when I was 27, and now live in Washington state, but just a few miles north of Portland, OR.
- I homeschooled both of my children through high school. They were both National Merit Scholars!
Why Did I Decide to Blog?
I have actually blogged for quite a while…since 2006 or thereabouts. I had a blog for a long time about my homeschooling adventures, and the gazillion books I used to read back then. I seem to have a need to discuss stuff with anyone who will listen, and share my so-called expertise. So, the blog.
Is There Anyone Else in My Life?
There is my handsome and awesome husband. He is my best friend and partner in everything. We met over 40 years ago but got married in 2008. We had a long “time-out,” I guess you could say! He does all the photography for the blog and builds my fitness equipment, too.
Then there are my wonderful children and their significant others. My oldest son is a college English professor in Texas, and my youngest son is pursuing a graduate degree in accounting, after finishing his undergraduate degree in history.
So join me, please, in this adventure I call fitness over 50, but which we could also call “hotness after 50.” If that is what you’re looking for, you’ve come to the right place.
